Science

Preschoolers and kindergarteners love science – and for good reason! At this stage, science is all about introducing children to basic facts about the world around them and helping them understand the underlying processes behind what they see. Young children are naturally curious, and science provides a way to help children understand the basics of what is around them (plants, animals, mountains, the stars) and how the things around them work (how does a caterpillar become a butterfly? How does cookie dough turn into a cookie?). For this reason, science at this level will be mainly taught through everyday activities, simple experiments, nature observation, field trips, and reading books. Some homeschoolers also decide to use a formal science curriculum when their children begin kindergarten.
