Middle school science generally includes a combination of life science, earth science, and physical science. Whereas elementary school science generally comprises an introduction to various science topics through fun demonstrations and experiments, science in middle school begins to focus on more concrete scientific concepts that your students will need in preparation for more advanced science courses in high school.
There are many excellent homeschool science curriculums available to middle schoolers, along with wonderful supplementary science resources. You may be wondering how homeschoolers teach science without the benefit of a lab like you would have in a school building. Fortunately, many of the available curriculums include lab kits and instructions for simple experiments that can be done at home. There are also excellent science subscription kits that make a great supplement for homeschoolers.
Because you are homeschooling, you also have the flexibility to intensely study science topics that are of particular interest to your child – perhaps astronomy, volcanoes, or marine biology. Allow your child to have input on the science concepts he or she wants to focus on at this stage.
