Best Hands-On Program

La Clase Divertida!

Translated as “The Fun Class”, La Clase Divertida! is a wonderful, hands-on Spanish homeschool program that can be used by kids in grades k-8. The course combines traditional written methods with a variety of other tools, including video and audio recordings, to help students remember vocabulary and grammar. The program focuses on Latin American Spanish and includes plenty of hands-on activities, such as cooking and crafts projects, to teach kids about the cultures of Spanish-speaking countries.

Approachable and easy to follow for both parents and students, this program does not require any previous knowledge of Spanish in order for parents to teach with it effectively. The program is clearly structured with simple lessons. The lessons include a combination of watching the DVD-based instruction, listening to the pronunciation audio CD, and completing exercises in a workbook.

The hands-on projects make this program especially fun for elementary kids. Cooking projects include making quesadillas and fried ice cream, while the craft activities feature projects such as making a Mexican flag and creating tissue paper flowers.

If your child is new to Spanish, you’ll want to begin with Level 1 of the program, which focuses on basics such as the Spanish alphabet, colors, numbers, parts of the body, days of the week, family members, and pets. For the most convenience, purchase the Level 1 kit, which includes all the materials you’ll need to use this program for up to two children: the teacher’s manual, two student workbooks, two DVDs, an audio CD, two sets of craft materials, and a canvas tote bag for storing all of these materials.

Best for Multiple Children

Risas y Sonrisas Homeschool Program

If you are looking for a homeschool Spanish curriculum that is comprehensive, fun, and designed to be used by multiple children, we recommend the Risas y Sonrisas homeschool Spanish program. Made to be used with 2-5 children at a time, this program is perfect for family with multiple kids or for small homeschool group settings. The program is engaging, thorough, and offers the option to work both on- and off-line.

Risas y Sonrisas is an approachable program that is easy for parents to teach with, even if they don’t have any knowledge of Spanish themselves. The materials include different levels of difficulty, so a first grader and a fifth grader can work side-by-side while both receiving instruction appropriate to their age levels. The print program can be used on its own or alongside the online platform, which provides an engaging multimedia experience.

This program is dynamic and multisensory, including plenty of images, songs, games, and color-coding to help students remember vocabulary and absorb grammar concepts. Kids learn through many different methods, from songs and games to words and images. American Sign Language is also used to help kids better remember vocabulary in a physical, sensory way.

The Risas y Sonrisas Homeschool Program includes all the materials you will need to teach Spanish to 2-5 kids. It also grants access to the online platform for one year.

Best Online Course

Homeschool Spanish Elementary Program by Foreign Languages for Kids

If you’re looking for a fun and interactive online Spanish curriculum, consider the Spanish program offered by Foreign Languages for Kids. As its name suggests, this program is designed by adults and kids, and its creators include both native and non-native speakers. This program is made to be flexible and customizable, so that you can make it work with your schedule and your children’s own learning styles.

The program teaches Spanish using a variety of tools – activities (both online and hands-on), workbooks, games, and videos. The videos are immersion-based, depicting daily life in a family that speaks Spanish. Children watch and listen to the characters in the video speaking Spanish, and as they do this repeatedly, their natural understanding of the language deepens. This program is especially good for visual and hands-on learners.

Parents appreciate that prep time is minimal and that they can customize their students’ learning activities. With each lesson, parents can look over one of the teacher guides, choose a video for that lesson, and select the corresponding activities they want their kids to do. From there, students can do most of the program independently, especially older elementary kids.

This program is membership-based. To see the membership options and do a free trial of the program, check out the Foreign Languages for Kids.
